Measurement Guidelines
When taking measurements for your garments, it's important to use a soft measuring tape and ensure the tape is snug but not tight. Follow these steps for precise measurements:
Bust-
Stand up straight with your arms relaxed at your sides.
Wrap the measuring tape around the fullest part of your bust, keeping the tape parallel to the ground.
Make sure the tape is not too tight and that you can breathe comfortably.
Tip: For the most accurate result, wear a bra that you plan to wear with the garment or one that offers similar support.
Upper Bust:
- Wrap the measuring tape around your chest, just above your bust (under the armpits).
- Keep the tape level and firm but not tight.
Lower Bust:
- Measure around the ribcage directly under your bust.
- The tape should be snug but not restrictive.
Waist-
Find your natural waistline, which is typically the narrowest part of your torso, located above your navel and below your ribcage. Keep the tape snug but comfortable around your waist. Avoid sucking in your stomach or pulling the tape too tight.
Stand relaxed to get the most accurate measurement of your true waistline.
Armhole:
- Wrap the tape around the shoulder and under the armpit to measure the circumference of the armhole.
- It should be comfortably loose, allowing free arm movement.
Hips-
Stand with your feet together and measure around the fullest part of your hips and buttocks.
This is usually about 7-9 inches (18-23 cm) below your waist, depending on your body type.
Ensure the tape is level all the way around, and that it lies flat against your body without being pulled tight.
Additional Measurements (If Required)
Shoulder Width-
Measure from the tip of one shoulder across to the tip of the other shoulder, keeping the tape slightly curved along the back.
Sleeve Length-
Measure from the shoulder point to the wrist, keeping your arm slightly bent for a natural fit.
Sleeve Round:
- Measure the circumference around your upper arm at the widest part, keeping the tape snug but not tight.
Front Neck:
- Measure from the base of your neck down to where you want the front neckline to end.
- This is usually done from the top of the shoulder, following the curve of the neck.
Back Neck:
- Measure from the base of your neck down to where you want the back neckline to end.
- Keep the tape centered and straight along the back.
Biceps:
- Measure the circumference of the widest part of your upper arm (just below the shoulder).
- Keep the tape snug but allow for some movement.
Elbow:
- Bend your arm slightly and measure around the fullest part of your elbow.
- Ensure the tape is not too tight to allow ease of movement.
Top Length:
- Measure from the top of your shoulder (near the base of your neck) down to where you want the top to end.
- Keep the tape straight down the front of your body.
Bottom/Skirt Length:
- For skirts or bottoms, measure from your natural waistline down to the desired length (knees, calves, or ankles).
- Keep the tape straight and follow the curve of your body.
Full Length:
- Measure from the top of your shoulder (near the neck) down to the desired full length of the garment (floor-length, for example).
- Ensure the tape stays straight down the front of your body.
Thigh Round:
- Measure around the fullest part of your thigh.
- The tape should be snug but comfortable.
General Tips:
Always take measurements while standing up straight.
Avoid wearing bulky clothing while measuring.
